We’re progressing our sustainability commitments
We’re progressing our sustainability commitments 9th June 2023

We are currently trialling an electric trailer refrigeration unit. The E-Cool Trailer is an all-electric, engineless, refrigeration system that converts the kinetic energy generated by the trailer axel and brakes into electricity, which is then stored in a battery pack that powers the onboard refrigeration unit that’s required for the safe, compliant transportation of some pharmaceuticals.

During this extensive pilot, the trailer will complete approximately 1,000 miles per week and use only electricity to power the onboard fridge for 30-40 hours, as we assess its performance as a green replacement for standard diesel refrigerated units required for the compliant storage conditions to transport pharmaceuticals. This is in-line with our commitment to transition to a fully carbon neutral fleet.

Steven Charlesworth, Director of Logistics said “As a member of Climate Group’s EV100 initiative, the trial is an opportunity for us to progress our sustainability commitments and reduce our impact on the environment, given the E-Cool Trailer is exactly in-line with our vision for the future of our fleet”.
